Default advice on a 96 4.0

I am going to look at this on Monday. It still has the air suspension. The problems that can be fixed, as the ad states are, no traction control, leaks transmission fluid from the radiator, service engine light and an ABS problem. Head gaskets weren't done as far as he knows. I'm looking to purchase a 3rd vehicle for a backup vehicle, dog hauler and for moderate off road adventures. I was looking for a disco but came across this. I can do some things myself and have a friend that can do everything else, like head gaskets. What are your thoughts on this as far as fixes, what else I should check out and a price. SUV 4.0 SE 1996 RANGE ROVER

Traction Control and ABS are one problem. Fix the ABS and you'll have Traction Control again......... if you think you need it or want it. Leaking trans fluid from radiator could be either trans line connections needing new O rings or a cracked line connection, obviously one is easier than the other to fix. Bagged suspension can be very expensive to fix or can be very cheap (although it's not listed as a problem they usually become one). Being nearly 20 years old it's bound to start acting up so coil conversion may be in it's near future. Price it accordingly. Most older 4.0 Rangies are about $2000 and up in my area (snows allot) and that one has under a 100k on it so it's probably in the $2500 ballpark. It's in good shape...... sans the driving lights. I wouldn't worry too much about head gaskets if it's never overheated, very unlikely it will need em anytime soon. Take a really good look at what IS leaking.

under 100k for $ is good in my area too. My bags and compressor are 16-years old still work. Head gaskets on Gems engine are not as common as Boshe controlled engines

If your bag system is still going say a prayer cuz you've got a friend above........ I know you take care of your equipment, most don't, not like us anyways. I was looking at CL in your area and many good finds, I need to find a car hauler for cheap........

I passed on this one. I think a disco is better suited for my intended use.

I talked to him. I don't know much about the p38 and he is saying he wants $3k. I may still go look at it once the rain stops here. Can you tell me what I should be checking out. I'd like to get it closer to $2k so I have some $ left to fix what it needs.
