Alarm Advice!!
Reposted in Tech Help
Hey guys,
I have a 1992 Range Rover County "Classic" which I have had for just under a year. I bought the car, which is in great condition (small minor issues), but the alarm remote has just died on me. I replaced the battery in the remote but it seems that the button is dead. Can I buy a new remote and get it programed or, do I need to get a totally new system? I am not really too excited about big repairs seeing that I have upgraded the truck as much as I could on my budget. It has the original alarm and stereo that came on the County model.
Any help/advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Well..I hope for your sake the '92 is a bit different from my '01...but from what my mechanic told me, everything before '03 (RR Classic - P38s) had keys that were hand cut in England, where-as the '03s-up can be laser cut here with a key code.
My remote was dying, and I checked into getting a new key from the dealer, and it was gunna be a 2 week turn-around with the key coming from England. $185 for the handset with remote entry, plus shipping. RR Classics might not be integrated like the P38s...but I dont know.
You might want to look into an alarm install from CCity/Best Buy..a '92 might not need the $400 factory alarm bypass module like my '01, and if you're facing near 200 bucks for a new key, an aftermarket alarm might only be 150! Check your options!

You can get it re-chipped at the dealer for about $49 in parts. Pay the labor and have them sync all the remotes and install the chips. put new batteries in them too. 2032?
Sometimes if you TOSS the keys the tiny chip will pop out INSIDE the remote. if you shake the remote and it rattles, this is the case. unscrew it carefully and with clean hands push the chip back in like it is a computer memory RAM card -- carefully. put in the new battery and try it out.
Extend the range of your remote by putting it inside your mouth or under your chin when you press the button. Your head is the cheapest antennae you will buy. I don't think it will cause head cancer or brain loss only doing it 3 times a day... (I hope).... maybe that is my problem... hmmm....
