Default buying a classic

Are the 87 and 88 rovers too underpowered. I'm wanting to get an easy to work on entry level rover. Should I go with an 89 with the 3.9liter. It only gets 13 mpg on premium -- the 3.5 gets better even on regular but is kinda a dog I've heard.Any suggestions appreciated.

Default RE: buying a classic

I prefer my 3.9over a 3.5 version, personal opinion of course, but it depends what you want one for!

.. for example, for proper off roading, some people prefer the smaller engined RR, especially for bobtailing etc, but others prefer the 3.9 top of the range version for cruise & comfort! ( like me!)if you want a 4x4with really high horsepower, & a very fast 0-60mph, then theclassic is not for you! - dont get me wrong!- mine will get to and easily do over a ton no problem, butI would not want to go roundcorners that quick!

I love the fact that in mine, I can be fully loaded for a camping trip & with the whole family in, I can overtake some stupid muppet clogging up a B road, uphill with the wind against me! - priceless!!!

decide what you want one for, both have presence on the road, & both are easy to work on,
&if you are a reasonably competentDIY mechanic, you'll save lots of money when things might go wrong.

good luck!
