Hi, i've always liked the classic Range Rovers (pre-'95). Currently I own an FJ60 Toyota Land Cruiser and have enjoyed it, but it's a bit sluggish to drive in traffic, and it is a 4-speed manual which my wife doesn't really have a handle on. I also have a TR6 sportscar so I "know about British cars" in a way that they are fun to drive and look great, but they always seem to need a repair.
Wondering if it's possible to buy a good ~1990 RR for around $3000, I'm thinking I'd have to dump another couple grand to iron out all the things that could need attention in the near future? I've heard about the air suspension needing replacement often, or even a conversion to springs, but don't know much else about common problems on a RR of this vintage. Anyone care to gimme a run-down of things to look out for when considering a purchase?

Watch out for rust (obviously) due to the fact that even though the bodies are aluminum, the hood, and tailgate are both steel. Also, the air suspension is an unecessary option. It is very tempermental, and breaks easily.
