Car:1996 P38 4.0

I tried searching but didnt find the answer so i figured i would post up. Every time i try to use either of the buttons on my left steering wheel stalk. the "bell" and the "i" icon to change the displayed average mpg, different trip, or set the speed over warning it wont change from the default trip display. I tried holding both in to reset everything while having the Key in position II but still nothing. The dash lighting control switch on top of the same stalk works fine, so i am not really sure if i am doing something wrong, or if there is a problem here, and if so how i would go about fixing it. Thanks!

 

I looked @ a 4.0 before I bought my 4.6 HSE and those options did not work on that one either. Maybe it is just a HSE option
