Default check engine light --- '88 Range Rover Classic

Check engine light is on a timer on this one. Any suggestions
how it is resettable? Shop manual doesn't cover it. Doesn't even
have OBD I port. Thanks.

An 88' is the only year to get 14 CU Lucas EFI. OBD starts in 96' Battery disconnect will clear codes. CEL on again indicates a hard fault.

Another manual sez that CEL controlled by
module under dash driver's side. I'll pull
this one and see if it accepts reset tool.
I'll post if it works.

Pete, Now that I think about it there may be a relay that controls the light. I'll check and let ya know.

Under dash, driver's side, is a small brown box with the words "Emission System Maintenance Reminder,"
printed on it. After prying the plastic cover off and shorting the internal shorting block, reassemble
and reinstall, The CEL functioned properly. Lamp test at Ignition ON and then stays off.

Now,
all I have to do is silence the low oil pressure indicator lamp. The oil pressure sender has been
replaced and tests fine. Something is grounding out the wire that connects it to the lamp. I suspect
the "oil level logic unit." This is not indicated in the parts locator diagrams and I can't imagine
what it looks like. Where is it and what does it look like!??? I think that's the varmit.
Thanks.

Peter,
Have you verified the oil pressure with a mechanical pressure guage? Might want to check it out, wouldn't be the first Rover engine to get the oil pick up tube plugged up.

We tested the oil pressure sender. When the engine is on, it
grounds the tester. When the engine is off, the sender is open.
I think the mechanic is satisfied that it has enough oil pressure
to motivate the sender change of state. And it does have
fresh oil in it. We'll look into the plugged pump intake however.
