I used one of those hand held computers to diagnose the check engine light (cyl 3 is missing). Not sure if I want to bring it in to a dealership and pay for some big repair as I am unemployed; nonetheless, would like to drive the vehicle without that light shinning in my face everyday

Short of tearing apart the dash and removing the light bulb do I have any other options?

Do you notice any misfires? In other words do you see or feel the engine misfiring. Sometimes you can detect them by placing your hand over the exhaust and feel it. I would start with the basics, like spark plugs and wires. Chances are that is all it is. I would clear the code first to see if it comes up again. If it does not, then it was just some random code. I get them from time to time, they are rovers ...
