1996 P38 4.6. 113k. "Check Engine" light is on and preventing vehicle from passing State inspection. Code reader shows no codes or errors.

Anything in particular that could be causing this? Possible things to eliminate?

The light that is on then is most likely your engine maintance light that needs to be reset.

 

could be about 140 different things. need some codes... is it red or amber??? and what state fails a saftey insp for a check engine light

 

Don't know where Disco Mike's post I read last night went...

New Jersey will fail the vehicle.

The code ready says all is okay - no codes / errors present.

Is it just a mileage or routine thing that can easily be reset, by mechanic - dealer, myself?

The light on the dash is amber - it's on all the time.
