Engine & Seat
Hi guys,
I have just fitted a new engine to my P38 4.6 HSE Range Rover and everything is fine. However do I need to have the engine ECU reset to default values or will it "Self teach" the new engine settings after a few miles as I notice the fuel consumption has increased with the new engine and I am taking it easy on the gas pedal until I have done around 1000miles.
On another note, a few months ago the daughter drove the driver seat fully forward and afterwards the seat would not move forwards or back on the motors. Took the seat out off the car and managed to power it back by hooking up wires to the motor and moving it manually off a spare battery.
Came to fault find later and after a lot of hair pulling discovered that one of the pin outs on the plug fitted to the BECM harness that plugs into the seat outstation (ECU) had become slightly dislodged from the plug body and was not making contact-reseated it and the seat operates perfectly. It appears tahe this harness was a bit on the short side and when the seat was moved fully forward it put strain on the cables and pulled the pin out.
One to look out for if you have the same problem

When you disconnect the battery from the car the ECU loses most of the engine programming besides it's basic parameters that it came with from the factory, as you drive it will relearn different values, some people like to do the break in procedure for a motor, then disconnect the battery and drive the car hard so the computer retains more performance-oriented values
