engine swap P38 into '95 Classic
Dear Friends, Recently my 4.6 HSE was hit by a lamppost, which severly damaged the body (beyond economically sensible repair). My Classic 95 has been sitting for a while with a tired 3.9 engine and I am contemplating transferring the very juicy P38 Thor engine (Bosch motronic) into the Classic. Thoughts, knowledge, insights anybody? Does someone have experience? Is it do-able at reasonable cost, engine plus transmission possible? Engine only? I understand that I would need to transfer the control units ansd wiring as well. Your responses are apreciated! Joost
The bosch block isn't impossible to fit, but there are some particularities of the block that will cause some issues. You will have plenty of issues getting the EFI and ECU to adapt to the new engine size too...
Of course it can be done; unfortunately it will be a lot of work and time. If you strip most everything out of the Classic and replace it with the P38 then you will be good. That means everything from the parts of the wiring harness that you need form the classic so the lights and everything will work along with climate control and then add in the parts od the P38 that control everything else. Then you still have to add in the O2 sensors for the exhaust and also figure out where to put n the OBD2 port. It is more of a swap than I am willing to do and I have done some very questionable stuff in my time that I shoul dhave had more sense not to do.
