Default Failing to Start

This may sound simple but is rather frustrating....

I just bought an '03 Range Rover - good shape. It's been working well till recently, when it started to exhibit an intermittent starting problem.
The car will not (intermittently) start - wssentially the starter engages, the engine turns over but the engine does not start.
Unless I remove the key from the ignition it keeps cranking (for ever), trying to start with no success.

This is intermittent, there are no OBDC codes (according to the LR mechanic).

This has now happened a number of times, in two cases the car was sitting overnight, the other case it was after refueling (car was at operating temp.).
The LR mechanic has not been able to trouble-shoot.

In one case, the refueling case, i stoped, refueled, and nothing, it would not start. Waited 15 minutes, tried again, nothing. Waited another 15 minutes, nothing.
I pulled fuse 31 (engine control) to check - it was fine. After re-inserting the engine started up.

HELP - Any thoughts, ideas, on how to trouble-shoot this?
