Default Gas Gauge Error?

New owner of a 2003 Range Rover HSE, and I recently filled up the vehicle with a full tank of gas. However, the gas gauge does not register the full tank, and continues to show it on empty, with the yellow light on. Any thoughts/ideas on how to fix? I will soon have no idea now how much gas is in my tank!
Thanks in advance,
Mayday

The fuel sender is acting up. You will have to get to the fuel pump to fix it. Best advice I can give you if you want to fix this. Is to take it to an independent rover shop and have them replace the fuel pump. The float could also be stuck, additives have been known to fix this problem.

I have not worked onthe fuel pump of a 2003, if you can find a manual see if it is easy to get to and open it up and see if the floet is broken or frozen. You may also just have a loose connection causing this.

Thanks so much for the quick replies, Rob and Scott. I just had the fuel pump replaced about a month ago, and the gas gauge appeared to be working fine. Before I attempt to get at it (I think I need to take out the back seat to get access), is there anything else I can try? What did you mean about "additives" - please elaborate. Also, is there any chance this could be a blown fuse?

It could be a blown fuse, but I doubt it. Sometimes if the gas cap isn't tightened down correctly, that can cause a problem too. Additives are what you put in your gas to clean the system or treat it. I usually put some in my cars at every oil change, just to keep things from getting fouled up. You can usually buy additives right there at the convenience store when you fill up for gas. I put ISO Heat in at just about every fill up during the winter time to keep condensation out of the fuel. One more thing you can try (don't break your bumper). Is rock the back of the car up and down, it might just be stuck like Rob said. Fixed the problem with one of our cars anyways.
