Default Help, Help...2003 RR Battery (charging) issues

Hey guys, I need for help. I have a 2003 RR HSE (103,5000 miles). My battery light flashes on and off (about every 3-4 minutes) after a new alternator and new battery. The instrument panel lights continuously dims? Also, the radio cuts on and off. What could be the problem (s)?

Belt route, check first, if wrong can screw up other things as well, like cooling system. Pages attached from RAVE.

New alternator is bad or failing, check volts across battery. Would expect 13.8 - 14.4 volts engine running, no major accessories on. Rebuilt alternators from big box parts stores are famous for failing. If this is your replacement, be sure to save receipts.

Also could be bad or dirty terminals, either at battery, main frame ground (follow negative to ground spot in battery box). Battery ground may have been moved when replacing battery, needs to be clean and tight. See attached.

Bad ground connection from battery to frame, or frame to engine, can make volts go high or low, and high (above 15 volts) is very bad for electronics.

Also ***** read this from RAVE before work!!!!

Charging
The charging system comprises a battery and an alternator. The battery must be of a
sufficient capacity to operate the starter motor and operate the various electrical systems in
the vehicle. The alternator charges the battery when the engine is running and increases its
output as demand on the battery increases.
CAUTION: The battery positive terminal uses a pyrotechnic attachment which
detaches the battery cable in the event of a crash severe enough to trigger the
airbags. Refer to the Supplementary Restraint System section of the System
Description and Operation Workshop manual for further details.
The alternator is located at the front LH side of the engine. The alternator has an output of
90/150 Amps and is manufactured by Bosch. A polyvee belt drives the alternator pulley,
which in turn is driven from the engine crankshaft pulley.
The instrument pack incorporates a charge warning lamp which illuminates when there is no
output or a low output from the alternator. For a detailed description of the starting and
charging system, refer to the Engine Management System – V8 section of the System
Description and Operation Workshop manual.

Thanks SB. I'm going to look at those possible issues.

I'd look at battery (-) wire, which they may have had to remove from chassis to swap battery, and may have not tightend back up on the ground point. Everything is so compact under the hood that the average mechanic has to go outside to change his mind...

My mechanic said that he checked the wires connecting the alternator including the (-) cable wire. Fustrated, I took it to the dealership today. I'm waiting on the diagnosis. :-(
