Default Interesting Land Rover Statistic

I was reading the linked article and ran accross an intersting statistic. "75 percent of all Land Rover vehicles sold in this country since Land Rover's 1989 introduction in the United States remain on the road."

I know that we all talk about problems but this stat is very impressive as it says that while these vehicles do have problems, they are worth keeping around...

Or we are just crazy enough to keep paying. Either way I'll keep buying Land Rover, to know I can go anywhere I want.

The more I work on mine and drive it around, the more confident I am about its long term reliability and durability. Will it have those annoying little problems? Yes but, the power train on these things are just built so well and to such a high standard. I was very lucky when I got mine, very sturdy and well taken care of, despite a few minor details. It may have quite a bit of miles on it but, it would not surprise me if I managed to push another 100k out of it. I am hooked on rovers now and probably won't be buying any other brand other than Land Rover but, maybe Jagaur to have a sedan.

I think consumer reports is not telling the truth when it comes to Land Rover reliability. I never had problems with my 01 RR, 08 LR3 or my new RR Sport. If you live in Denver you see 10, 15 year old Rovers all over the place. CR I think would rather steer us to Hybrids or other vehicles that they think are fuel efficient, so they lie.

I agree that there is bias but how do they configure their reliability stats? Isn't it from survey's that are sent out?

There are a few reasons I can think of.

1. People who bought a Rover and it broke are really vocal (unhappy people tend to be louder than happy people)

2. People who can't actually afford to drive a Rover buy them and then don't understand when their expencive (and uncared for) Rover breaks ... $110,000 cars break sometimes too, they're just more expencive to fix than you're alternate $50,000 car.

So far my Rover has been great (recently more reliable than my Lexus suprisingly)
