Default Keyless Entry

On both sets of keys that I have for my '97 Rover 4.0 SE the 2 buttons for the 'lock' and 'unlock' are gone so I have to lock manually which isn't a problem. My question is if I go to the dealer do I have to buy all new keys or can the 'casing' be replaced and about how much $$$? Or is there an alternative? Thanks

Good news! The buttons on the p38 keyfob are replaceable. You can order the part online at roverparts.com or you can get it from the dealer. I had to do this about a month ago, I replaced the battery and the buttons on my keyfob for about $10 after tax. I think the buttons are about $3 or $4 dollars. Sorry, not sure of the part number, but the dealer should know exactly what you are talking about.

Excellent. Thanks soooooo much. How did you seperate the 2 halves of the fob and did you have any problems you can warn me about before I open it?

DO NOT OPEN THE KEY. You simply use a penny or small coin on the back in that slit to open the back if you are replacing the battery, and if you are just replacing the buttons then you just slide the new one into the precut slot. If any of the worn buttons are left on the key you'll need to remove that first, but the new one is an easy insert. You should have no reason to have to actually open the keyfob, and if you do I have no experience with opening it so I have no help for you, hope that helps!

I see what you mean. I've ordered the part (2). I understand the picture better now. I just bought the car and both sets have the same problem from excess wear I guess. Thanks again.
