Low down
I am looking to purchase my first LR. Its a 95 Range Rover. I would like to know the negatives and positives on this vehcile. If I buy it will be my daily driver as well as transport me up to the Rockies for snowboarding in the winter and wheeling in the summer. I have heard a TON of bad things about LR. Are their any positives? The price in 3499 and it has 115000miles. I have narrowed my choices down to Jeep Cherokee or LR Disco or Range Rover. I have owned a Cherokee in the past and it was very reliable. I don't want to have alot of maintenance costs associated with my vehicle. Will I be spending $300 - 400 bills month for up keep on LR's?

RE: Low down
Take the car for inspection, safety, emissions, etc.
I just bought a 1993 classic. I love it. It is my 2nd LR after buying the first one couple of weeks before.
The first problem that I encounter was that it failed emission inspection so I had to change the Catalytic Converter. That also means replacing the O2 sensors. So, just in parts there are ~800. Not that it will be the same story for you, but just be careful and make sure that it will pass all state's inspection.
Check it for leaks as well, major leaks. All old cars leak but make sure there isn't anything major. Look the pavement where it is parked. I haven't heard anyone saying that they are low maintenance cars. But the overall satisfaction is pretty high, it feels very good to drive this old vehicles.
BTW, I use my 1993 as my daily driving vehicle. Runs great!!! It was a bummer that I had to change the Cat. Conv. but that was something I had to do if I wanted to keep it.
There are also a lot of good online auto parts with very good prices for replacement, aftermaket and genuine parts. So feel confortable that you will be able to find parts for it... Parts are not particularly more expensive than Honda or Toyota...

RE: Low down
Thanks for your response. I test drove the 95 Range Rover SE today. I noticed some smoke out the tailpipe that went away after the test drive. The lft front door indictor was on, and the window did not roll all the way up, which they said they would fix. I did not notice any leaks when looking in the engine compartment, or below the vehcile. It has coil springs front and rear instead of airbags. I noticed in 4 low that it shifted more abrupt.
