Default Mirror leaking?

Gentlemen,

My very first post..............The Auto Dimming mirror on my 96 Range Rover is leaking a black oily substance and the mirror has the appearance of being wet but is dry to the touch? What the Heck???????????

The mirror has failed, the liquid that is leaking out is what is used inside the mirror.
Remove the mirror and throw it away. You can but a new one from Rover or get an aftermarket, inexpensive mirror to replace it.

same problem, can you walk me through how to do it?? and whre to buy? mine is a 97' disco.

One of them should have a good price on a used one or call your dealer and be prepared to pay the big bucks for a new one.

Check the rear of the mirror to see if it was manufactured by Magna Donnelly. The same occurred in my 97 RR 4.6 about 5 months ago. I contacted the manufacturer and they replaced the mirror gratis. Their commitment to customer service is outstanding. I had to give some basic info, such as make, model, MY, color of wires and photos of connector. They even provided a postage paid envelope to send back the defective unit. It was a no hassle process and saved me about $250. The Magna contact info is below. Good luck.
