This is my first post and am asking a question please. I would like to purchase a good code reader for my 2005 Land Rover Range Rover - Asking if I need a CAN OBDII reader?

No, engine and transmission report to the DLC on a ISO9141 bus, make sure whatever you buy can read that and you'll be ok.

I recommend getting one with live data, as it can be extremely helpful when diagnosing a problem.
