Newbie looking for Rover help
Hi all,
Looking to buy my 1st Rover and would like some help. Due to current finances, I'm targeting the '00-02 HSE. Some questions-
1) Are there any major problems I'll encounter with mileage between 65K thru 100K? I usually expect to replace brakes/rotors, tires and shocks but was wondering if there were any other things to consider.
2) Speaking of shocks, with the air ride on Rover's, what type of $ costwould beinvloved if shocks/struts need to be changed?
3) How about tranny and engine issues?
Thanks for any help.
Riko

Riko,
What will you be using the Rover for?
Shocks are not a big issue, OME's or Bilstein's are great.
The tranny's and engines are pretty long last as long as service on a regular basis.

Thanks Mike.
I'll be using it for commuting (15,000 mile/yr) and off roading (1-2000 mile/yr). I'm familiar with the Old Man Emu's as I had them on my Jeep.
I thought the Rovers had the air suspension that raises and lowers the vehicle 4-5 inches, don't you need to buy the OEM shocks to make that work?

There are a million things that can and do go wrong...I had a 98 SE and now have a 02 HSE, and I think the biggest fear is in the electrical system and climate control. You will read about it in this forum. These trucks spend alot of time in the shop. My advise would be to find a Certified one still under LR warranty, and then then if the big stuff happpens, you are covered. But its worth it! For me there's no other car on the road...they are just so beautiful and classic.
Thanks Art.
Maybe you or anyone else can help me.
I've decided on an '02 HSE and the dealer has stated that the passenger side of the climate control is not working along with the navigation system.
Does anyone know how much I'd be looking at to fix those items?
Thanks for any help.

Riko, I just bought an '02 Range with 98K miles for $9300. I know you said you got one with 65k miles for $11K, I think you may have gotten the better deal in the long run. Have you had any problems so far? Mine is leaking oil profusely, I'm gettin a "sunroof not set" in the msg. center, and my thermostat just failed yesterday. I still love it though.

Got your e-mail, but I'll respond here.
I wouldn't worry about the miles, you got a real good deal at $9k. No problems with mine other then the ABS, traction control and climate control needs fixing. I got a 2 year/24 mthextended warranty for $995 and all of those items will be covered. I see you're in Rock Hill,If you need to know of a good independant rover shop, I found one in Mooresville, NC about 15 miles from my home. Here's their link- http://www.taylorsimports.com/
As far as the oil, you need to see where the leak is coming from. I had to put a new seal on my drain plug to stop a small leak. If you take the battery out you will get the window/sunroof not set warning. You have to open and close the sunroof in one motion and that will reset the anti trap function for your sunroof.
Cheers
I'm looking into my 99's climate control because the left side isnot working due to a non-working blower motor. A new motor is 300-350 dollars if I install it myself. 150 dollars for a used take-off blower motor.
If yours is not working because of the motor, check and see if the pollen filters for the blower motors have ever been replaced (mine hadn't been). If you are using outside air instead of recirculating interior air a clogged pollen filter is a huge drag on the blowers.
