Newbie - Looking at 99 HSE

I am looking at a 4.0 HSE 4x4. I am wondering what the long term reliability of this vehicle is. This unit looks very clean and is at a respectable dealer. I am going to go test drive. What is the fuel mileage of this vehicle? Any major issues these vehicles experience? Sorry but i'm very very new to these.

How many miles?......and "listen" closely here. Do not buy the vehicle if the dealer cannot produce a file of the service history of the vehicle. Read the contents of this file and make damn sure it had a major service every 30,000 miles. Confirm that any items requiring attention during a routine service were addressed on a repair order dated later.
And even then---confirm the V.I.N. of the actual vehicle matches the service records. Next--- read my tech info pages at www.eurotekapg.com---- they are broken down into the major systems of the Land Rover vehicle. This will arm you with things to look for on the '99.
If I had a buck for every first Land Rover owner that had no experience with these vehicles---said it "looked like a nice example"--- and then brought it in for its first check-out--- to then realize it needed $5K of work to bring it back to a roadworthy, safe, and reliable condition--- I'd be able to pay for a month getaway in a bungalow in Cancun by now!
There is no getting around the fact that a Land Rover requires the owner to stay on top of the service schedule. As I've said before, you try and "cheat" by putting "band-aids" on it until you have the money to fix it properly down the road a bit.....and YOU WILL lose big time.
Sorry---but this is the reality that many don't want to hear.
