Default Overheating RR

1995 RR 4.2 V8 75,000 miles 25th anny

My RR got so hot that it blew the plastic coolant tank in half. The gauge did not even go over halfway either. This thing has also been blowing up coolant hoses as well. Any ideas? The thermostat was recently replaced with a 160 and I used regular green antifreeze, however the coolant hoses were doing the same thing even before this. I am not really sure what it could be and am at a loss. Does this have an electronic cooling fan or the type of cooling fan that spins with the motor? I assume that the water pump is fine since it has the ability to spray all of the coolant out in a short period of time???
