Default P38 no low range

Got my '01 P38 stuck so I had to suffer the indignity of being hauled out of a hole by an Isuzu Trooper today, and afterwards I couldn't select low range. It worked fine before and while I was stuck, but I tried it after being towed out the shifter won't move to the low side of the shift gate. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be going on so I'll have direction to start looking tomorrow? Thanks

Just to double check
The shifter would not move? That sounds odd.

It will shift through high range just fine, but I can't get it to shift over to the low range side of the shifter gate

After some google searching I think something may have broken in my shifter. I did try to rock it out a few times so maybe shifting back and forth broke something. In the post I found the guy removed the shift cover and gate and his shifted into low. Guess I'll start there tomorrow

I have some trouble getting mine ('99 p38) to shift over to the Low side sometimes. I usually try backing up a few feet or pulling forward a few feet. I don't know if it's just in a bind or what, but I have always been able to get it over there with just a little patience and extra effort. Works for me.
