Default P38 in "Security Lockout"

I'm looking at a 1996 P38.
The RR won't start and the console says "Security Lockout"
I'm not near the rr, so I need ideas on how to reset this problem.
Apparently the vehicle run without problems until the owner let the battery go dead and then it will not start. Also the back doors won't unlock (probabily related)
The key fob battery has been renewed.
The nearest LR Stealership is far so it would need a flatbed tow.
Any ideas?

The alarm systems are known to go into vehicle immobilization if the battery is cut or dies. You can download the RAVE set of tech manuals (free) and work through there, and also search the forums, this has come up before for several vehicles. If you have not purchased the vehicle this may be a way to reduce the price. On the other hand, I would prefer a real life test drive and mechanical inspection.

If you search our forums under "superlock" you will see how extensive the problem can become. Sending modules to be re-programmmed, etc. But start with the RAVE first.

Thanks Savanna, The price reflects the problem.
Any idea of how to find the previous thread?

My battery has died on me numerous times and has never given me any sort of security errors, but then again I'm in the US. I noticed you listed your disco's mileage in km, the security systems on the P38 differ in other countries. In the EU you need to leave the key in the ignition when disconnecting/reconnecting the battery (leave the door open, you never know if it might decide to lock itself ). It might take a great deal of diagnosing to solve this issue, or it might be something very simple. In either case, it is up for you to decide whether or not it is "worth it". Good luck to you, and keep us posted.

What a great design by engineers (or engineerettes) that never had to work on these things. Who could imagine that a battery connector might ever get corroded and break contact - would never happen in a thousand years! I'm afraid that a visiting professional - socalrovershop - is probably most up to date. But you can use the search feature to hunt for this, or even Google. Would seem like to me that with enough wire cutting and splicing the theft system could be removed. Won't be simple.

i wouldnt suggest cutting or splicing anything for these vehicles . the vehicle pretty much locks its whole thing out and the only way to get it back up is by going in with a t4 and resyncing the whole security system bcu ecm and immobilzer ecu. yeah i know it sucks but believe me land rover stopped doing this for a reason haha.

Default Update

So... I walked away.
There were other issues, like the air suspension altered but not retrofitted to coils, The radio replaced with a cheesy aftermarket unit (why, I wonder if the ppo was a young and stupid lad).
So the electrical faults could be too much fun for me. I don't mind biting more than I can chew, but at least I'd like to know what it is that I'm biting into.
I'm looking at other RR for now.
