Default Power Seat/Power Mirrors 1993 RRC

I just bought a 1993 RRC LWB beauty (4th LR) and have this unique problem that the driver's side seat controls (only the driver's side) power and adjust the side mirrors. There is no control to the seat. I have seen a thread (or something) relating this problem to the memory function (mine does have a memory function...not working) on the seat control. I disabled the memory function on the switch (didn't work). I've taken the switch apart and cleaned it (didn't work). I cannot gain access under the seat to the fuse box (the seat won't move...remove the seat?). I have considered using the passenger side seat switch (or at least trying this). Does anyone have any insight or suggestions. I can buy a new switch...but I'm not sure that's the problem. I suspect a fuse or possibly a dead motor.

If it is like my Discovery, the switches are different from side to side so they can't be swapped. You could pull the switch out of the housing and test it with a volt meter. That will tell you if you have current in the wires and if it is flowing through the switch or not.

Most likely, you're seat ECU is bad. The seat ECU is an off white box secured up, under the seat on the driver's side. It is secured in place with one plastic **** that, when turned, will allow the ECU to drop down (as far as all the wiring will allow). Disconnect the all the multipin connectors, remove the ECU, open it up and examine the circuit board. Sometimes, you're lucky and all you need is to replace the large, round Varta battery on the circuit board. If you're lucks not so good, you'll find that the battery has leaked and damaged the circuit board. At that point, you're looking at doing some creative wiring to bypass the ECU, enable seat switch functions and still be able to move the mirrors.

If you're less inclined to attempt a wiring solution you have the choice of trying to find a good seat ECU in the used market (eBay) or you can go with a remanufactured unit that only gives you seat movement. You'll lose the memory function but keep the ability to move the mirror. It's not a cheap alternative but there just aren't that many choices out there for replacing an aging part like that.

ECU failure is indeed the problem...another one of those 'known' issues' we enjoy. Rebuild/remedy on the way (re-built ECU). Thank you for the feedback.

Thanks for the help guys - same problem in my 95 Rover. Fortunately I was able to pull the circuit board for the ECU, remove the battery and repair the board. All good now.
