Range Rover Sport Diesel

Range Rover Sport Diesel
Hello everyone. I am completely green on LR / RR so educate me please. Looking to replace our MB ML350 and love the RR Sport design, but frankly dont know a whole lot about these cars. Have always heard about reliability issues with LR but not sure how true they hold today. I have some questions:
1) Any feedback on the Diesel model
2) When was the current body style introduced (not mid-cycle refresh)? How long is the typical RR body style cycle?
3) What are some must have options, and some not so needed ones?
4) How is the long-term reliability on these RRs versus say and ML or X5? We tend to keep our cars for a long time (~8 years)
5) Any other things to consider?
Thanks in advance and hoping to learn a lot here

Not really an answer to your question but we had a '12 ML350 BlueTec. I now have a '16 GLE350 w/ the gas engine. I miss the diesel each and every day. Keeping your cars that long, if you can keep the MB going, you should have no problem keeping a RR going. IThe reliability reputation goes w/ the older vehicles, I would say moreso the ones the ones w/ the Lucas electronics. Every car has it's known problem issues. I'm new to LR as well but I have 2 highly recommended specialist nearby and I got my truck from one of them that just went through it.
Bottom line, go for it!
