Default Range Rover wholesale values

I used to dabble in car brokering years ago, not anymore, but still receive all the wholesale reports on vehicles. As RR owners, you will be pleased to know that the RR's are holding their values very well lately. In the past 4 weeks the current body style (especially the 2006-2007) has actually gone up in value around $500-1000. I spoke with some dealer friends of mine and they said the used vehicles are selling very well at the auctions and seem to be demanding more money than they did a month or so ago.

FYI, the average wholesale value on a 2007 RR with decent miles (20-25k) is around $41,500, and the 2006 RR with decent miles (30-35k) is around $30,000. The 2006's have lost a little value in the past couple of weeks (a few hundred) but the 2007's have been holding their value without loss for about 4 weeks now.

These are values for the HSE, not supercharged.

By the way, if anyone wants to know what the approximate wholesale value on their Land Rover vehicle might be, just respond with Year, model, and number of miles and I will look it up for you.

Most of my wholesale reports will give values for vehicles up to 5-6 yrs old.

What about a 1996 with 160,000 miles. I got it for $2,700 and it is in great condition with leather seats that look like they have never been used. It had all the service records and etc. It just needed a little bit of TLC. So far all is well, aside from that grinding noise.

LR, I don't have books for that vehicle because of the age. I would go to www.edmunds.com and look up the value.

Great info Carnut!

Advise me on a situation;

I am leasing a 2007 FFRR with 22,000 miles and it will be due back in mid summer with a buyout of $47,500 (I will owe $1k in mileage overage). I really love the car and would be perfectly happy owning it (especially since lease rates are through the roof) but with the numbers you threw out there I should probably turn it in and get one at auction.

With that said, I have heard that the condition of auction vehicles are sometimes not as great as the vehicles on dealer lots. Any thoughts?

Also, what would a 2007 SC version go for with 25k miles?

Bobco, in response to your question... It looks like a 2002 HSE with that kind of mileage would be valued somewhere around $3500-4000 wholesale. Retail is more of course.

Luxury1, your (and mine) 2007 RR will not be worth $47500 this summer. although our vehicle has held it's value well in the past month, it will not last. In general, SUV sales dip when summer and spring hit. By mid summer, I will have doubts if full retail is even that, let alone wholesale.

My advice to you is to hand in your RR and pay the extra mileage cost and then find yourself another vehicle if you want to.

Your right, sometimes auction vehilces have histories that are not appealing, but then that is not always true. I have owned many auction vehicles that were fine.

Wholesale value on a 2007 Supercharged RR with decent miles is around $51,000 right now.

Feel free to ask any other questions if you think I can help.

Thanks for the info and advice carnut!

Sorry to ask so many questions but how do you go about finding a good vehicle at auction since you don't see it? Also, is it likely that a car that you would buy would require a lot of repair work (new brakes, tires, alignment, etc.) or is the car usually good to go upon acquisition?

I think that first if I were you, decide what vehicle you want to replace your 2007 RR. If it is another RR, that's great. I would suggest that you speak with the used car manager at your dealership about buying you a vehicle at the auction if this is the way you want to go. I would negotiate their fee ahead of time before they go to the auction. Typically they will charge you about $1500-2000 over what they pay.

Because this is a RR, I would also tell them that you want the vehicle to go thru the shop and fix whatever needs to. If your vehicle is still under warranty, it shouldn't cost you. Tell them, if you choose, that you want them to certify it as well. Now this will probably add an additional $2500 to the cost of this vehicle.

Now if you don't want to do all that, then just buy a certified RR off a lot from a dealer.

This sounds like a great plan. I definitely want another Range but kind of want the Supercharged. There is no way I am buying one new after witnessing this depreciation so I think I am heading this route for an '07/'08.

Thanks again for all of the advice!
