RangeRover is sputtering
If I remember correctly, cylinders 5 and 2are shared(waste-spark ignition system). One cylinder misfiring due to a bad plug or wire will cause the other to misfire as well.A faulty ignition coil could also be to blame. Check for a bad plug or wire on either of those cylinders, check for spark to either/both of those cylinders, and also check for a vacuum leak, these intake manifold gaskets are notorious for leaking due to relaxation of the intake manifold bolts. Usually a vacuum leak will set a system too lean fault, though, but if it a small enough leak, you could have misfires without the oxygen sensors seeing a too lean condition.
Thanks so much for the help guys. If it was a vacuum leak, would that make it make a sound like it has an exhaust leak. I am getting a ticking kind of noise whenever I press the gas. It sounds like an exhaust leak.
Two more questions:
1. If I just need to change the plugs and wires, can you recommend the best plug wires to get for this?
2. If its a vacuum leak. Is this something that I can do at home or do I need a major garage for this. If I can do at home. Is there a manual or tutorial somewhere that shows you how to fix it.
Thanks again for all your help.

The ticking sound is most likely the lifters. On my disco's I hear that sound.I have read that is quite common with LR. An exhaust leak would make the engine sound louder. I've also had that on my 03 disco.
Hey thanks Skyguy, are the lifters, something I can replace myself?Just realized that sounded like an idiotic question. Let me rephrase that. I am not a mechanic but I can read a manual well enough to understand what to do. Ok there is just no getting around this sounded dumb. Do I need any special tools or anything to replace the lifters? I think by now you get the point.[sm=chairshot.gif]
Lifters are inside the engine. It would require a tear down of heads. Very time consuming. Check this link out http://www.landroverclub.net/Club/HT...es_general.htm
