Default Recommended Fluids for 93 RRC

Got a buddy that needs to do pretty much everything. Any recommend diff/transfer case fluids for this model?

Dextron III for trans?

Preferred coolant for this model and anything else that needs to be changed on vehicles first service with the current owner/113k miles.

Here is an article from a well respected Rover and foreign auto specialist covering fluid changes.

How Rovers get here, driveshafts and fluids

Here's pages from the RAVE, the factory manual on the truck. Free download below of whole set, includes electrical diagrams, owners manuals, shop manuals, etc.

Note that power steering and transmission use ATF. Select oil by climate, 10W30 is only good from -4 to +50 F, as an example.

Thanks for the article.

So Synthetic Dexron ATF for the transfer case.
Dexron 3 for the transmission.
75-90 Gear oil for the diffs.

I read the Rave docs but wanted to know if there were changes because those docs appeared to be almost 20 years old now.

That would depend on transfer case fitted. Borg Warner, yes. But an LT230 uses same oil as diffs. Older models and owners report use of 85W140 synthetic quiets the older high miles cases and diffs.

No dexcool please on coolant, green is good, 50/50 premix Peak is hard to mess up. Radiator is a copper / brass affair, if calciumed up may be a candidate for acid flush and rod out by an indy radiator shop, can be had for $75 or so, you carry radiator in.

Many owners like the diesel rated oils for extra cleaning, and a high miles low spending PO is a good reason to use them. Shell Rotella is one brand, cheap, easy to find.

20 years old? Just getting broken in. I must say I prefer the older trucks. Parked by a newer Tahoe today, with electric running boards that retract into the body when the door closes. Too much fru-fru....
