Default RR4.6HSE 1997 popping through intake.

Have a Range Rover 4.6 HSE 1997 that idles fine, untill you touch the gas pedal. The revs falls dramatically before it picks up,after its popped through the airfilter. No faultcodes comes up.Smells like its running quite rich.Any suggestions?
Regards

Could be a dirty air filter, but that would most likely trip a code, possibly an oxygen sensor? How many miles on your Rover?

A couple months ago, I had a similar issue and it was the fuel pump. Works good sometimes, then doesn't. Have the fuel pressure checked. Mine was showing about 20psi - way too low. This will cause all kinds of problems in that the O2 sensors and ECU are going to read erratic behavior / low fuel pressure and attempt to supply more fuel as a correction. At some point, this will trip a fault code. In my case, the check engine light would only come on every few days, and except for the last pressure test, showed 30psi. I also got rid of the K&N air filter and cleaned out the MAF sensor.

Hopefully, your issue is something in between. A faulty O2 sensor is much cheaper than a fuel pump or MAF sensor.

Thanx for the reply guys.Turned out to be a faulty throttle position sensor.
