Can you guys offer some advice? The other car in the mix is a used BMW 750Li (although those have their own problems I am finding....What is it with luxury cars and poor reliability?)
I purchased my first Rang Rover last September and I enjoy every minute I get a chance to drive it. It's and 04 HSE and I don't think I want any other cars in my fleet but RR but, I have had some interesting items replaced already so be prepared for your car wanting to go visit its friends at the shop from time-to-time. besides that, I would suggest purchasing a RR HSE; if not for anything else, the ride is incredible!!! The suspension will dampen any condition found on the road as well as the comfort found in the cabin area. RR's are not as common as other cars in my area so I am always turning heads. those are my thoughts..

Any comments.......

SPZ71,
I would purchase if you can afford it the later years such as the 2001 or 2002. They have the same body as the 95-98's. The engines may be different but Land Rover worked out many of the bugs in the system which would fustrate most people. You either love or hate these trucks. Always get a rover with all the paperwork if at all possible so there is no mystery of how it was taken care of. Drive many of them and after a while you will be able to tell which ones are worth buying and which you should just walk away from no matter how clean it looks. You picked a good forum. Lots of experts on this forum. Best of luck!

The blocks on the 95 are the same all the way till 2002 except for the management system. The Gems engines were from 95 to 99 as stated by rovin4life as the troublesome ones. From 99 to 2002 the rover engine used the bosch management system. PERSONALLY i like the gems management system better (less crap to deal with). The Bosch system is more reliable electrically, but I am afraid of them because of dexcool and head gasket problems which ultimately lead to block cracks and liner slips. I HATE dexcool with a passion.

Default Looking at and 2003

Hi All,

Appreciate the helpful thread here. I am also looking to buy my first Range Rover and I have been debating on whether to buy a 2003 or 2004. It looks like you can get a big discount on the 2003s. However, someone told me that was a horrible year. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks in advanced

Default Transmission Appears to stick at about 35 mph

Hi All,

Thanks for the responses to my first question. I took that RR out for a spin and everything appear right, except one thing, at about 35 miles per hour the trany appeared to stick and then the RR would jolt when it finally did shift. Not being familiar with RRs i wasn't sure if this is the type of thing that can be fixed easily or if this is a major problem.

thanks agian.
