Post Tire pressure 1996 p38

Hey everyone i just purchased a 1996 land rover range rover 4.0 2 weeks ago and the manual says to put 38psi in the rear tires and 28psi in the front now im wondering why so much in the rear if im not carrying a load? also to me it seems 28psi in front is low like there should be more i dunno? The manual calls for 255/65/16 tires and thats what i have on the truck right now so does this mean i have to stay in the manual specs for tire pressure which is 38/28?

First you have a range of tire sizes that will fit your truck. As for the air pressure, I would tend to run the front and rears at the same pressure for better traction, tread wear and performance, somewhere around 40 pounds.

Why does everyone say to follow what the manuals says which is 28/38psi? my truck is 1996 now a days people run more air then the book calls for for better mpg. also i dont see why the rear tires should have 10psi more then the front so i think im gonna run 38/38.
