Trans Fail-Safe Prog
TRANSMISSION SOLENOID CONTROL SWITCH IS BAD . Once it gets hot it will keep trans. in low range , and once switch cools ( after you turn truck off for a while ) it works fine for a while . About an 1800 dollar fix at dealer . I'm having the same problem !!!
Hi I,ve got a problem with my L322 4.4lt it doesn't like going on motorways.
Driving around town no problems at all but when used on the motorways it goes in transmission failsafe mode and stays in 4th gear then after a short while maybe 1/2 hour the fault clears to drive in town but when used on motorway and fault comes back again. I have changed the battery but it still happens the fault codes are P0022 & P0030 which seem to be camshaft sensor and exhaust sensor. Has anyone got any ideas some seem to say the transfer box motor please help.
Regards JT

My 03 HSE suffered this problem this year. Dealer (Cole European) recommended replacing transmission/gearbox to the tune of $4500. A week ago the same message came up on screen. Dealer says they don't know why. Any ideas out there as I think this dealer is at a minimum unhelpful and at a maximum possibly corrupt. Thanks. The message: "Trans Failsafe Prog High Range"
check your battery with a volt meter....should be around 12 volts....then check with engine running...should be high 13 to 14 volts... if battery gets low the transmition goes into fail safe mode...if you ignore it you may ruin your alternator.
Just wanted to give you my experience with having this message as these posts have been really useful for me. I had trans failsafe message come up once followed by an oil leak. After much searching I gave up and checked my RR Vogue 2003 into the dealer. After a short examination they concluded the gearbox had to come out as it was leaking gearbox oil. The problem was two seals that needed to be replaced in the gearbox and £100 worth of oil. Total fix was £860... £560 to remove and replace gearbox, £100 for oil, £50 per seal and £100 for something I'm not sure what it was!
Good luck.
Good luck.
The other thing that I found really useful for all 2003-2005 RRV users was a list of common issues and remedies that can be found here: MkIII L322 Range Rover Remedies
