02 discovery II
I am new to the forum so I would like to first say hello to all of you. Now down to business. I have an 02 discovery II that died one night backing out of the grocery store parking lot. Long story short I have replaced the fuel pump, crankcase position sensor and the coil packs...still will not turn over. I'm at my whits end but I really need to get my baby back on the road. What else should I be looking for? PLEASE HELP!!!
Not sure what any of those three items you threw at it have to do with "not turning over" or "starter does not make serpentine belt move". Cranking is the act of the starter spinning the engine (turning over) at your manual command. Starting is the act of the engine beginning to run from internal combustion after you have released the spring loaded ignition key.
1. When you turn key to position 2, can you hear fuel pump run for a couple of seconds? Maybe your new pump has no electrical power.
2. When you turn key to final position, do you hear a click, or a rattle of the starter solenoid, or a slow grinding of the starter? Try banging on starter with a hammer or such to free up the solenoid, this will be a short term fix. Check fuses under hood and under dash.
3. Is your alarm LED on the cluster making any blinks or solid? Immobilization may have taken control of the vehicle.
4. If starter spins and the the serpentine belt moves, you can check for spark. Many times the CKP sensor is installed incorrectly and just the wrong spacing prevents spark trigger.

as mentioned check for fuel, check for spark.
fixes get expensive when you start throwing parts at an unidentified issue.
i'd start with checking fuel pressure on the rail, since it was running while the problem occurred. inertia switch can shut down fuel supply

I may have explained the issue wrong...I apologize for the confusion. I'm getting fuel to engine and spark has been verified which is how I found one of coil packs was faulty. I guess the real issue is no ignition. If I try to start the vehicle several times then pull out the plugs they are wet with fuel as well...not oil. Due to my profession I really loathe throwing parts at an issue to fix it...hence why this has been such a frustrating ordeal for me.
This is what I've been able to find to this point:
getting the flashing 'm' and 's' lights
getting the code p0600
getting strong fuel smell from exhaust when cranking over
not getting spark on cyl 2, 8, 3, 5 (one whole coil pack)
Ive replaced the coil pack
Engine does not even try to run on remaining four cyl
Occasionally 'pops' from intake when cranking like its out of time
Checked all the connections, they look good at the harness, and pins on ecu.
Scan tool shows in live mode when trying to start:
TPS: 3.4%
Spark advance: 10.5*
RPM: 120 (vehicle sounds like it turning at normal speed)
Ect: 35*
IATS: 41*
Ideas? Please help....
