Default 03 Disco "Anyone know where this goes?

I was eyeballing my newley acquired 03 Disco SE and inside engine bay I noticed a little hard plastic tube coming from down under and terminates to the open air pointing toward the intake from the drivers side engine bay.. it snaps into the firewall of engine bay ... here are pics... is this supposed to be like this?

Not sure how to add pic here unless adding to album or make a web folder...

vent for axle or transfer case? On D1 they look like a hook.

Well, being too scared of electricity to have a D2, I can't go poke under the hood. But the D1 has three of them, two under the hood and one near the transfer case. They go back to a "banjo" bolt on the axle and vent the gas built up by gear lube evaporating. If plugged with dirt/mud, the diff oil can be forced out thru the axle seal and build up on the brake pads. Brake dust and diff oil = rubbery goop, like undercoating. But that is the only unterminated vac line looking thing normally encountered.

It is a breather vent tube. I am 99% sure it is for the front axle, but I will check my vehicle to confirm.

I looked in the RAVE, and it shows one for tranny, front axle, rear axle, but it shows them with a crook in the end. Which should make them easy to find. Maybe crook got snapped off by PO?

It is for the front axle.

On my 2000, on the passenger side, there is a shepherds staff hooked breather tube coming from the transmission or transfer case. There also used to be a breather tube on the passenger side that ran up the firewall, turned, and back into the transmission tunnel. That is the breather for either the transmission or transfer case (whichever the shepherds staff hooked hose isn't for). I pulled the open end of that hose into the engine bay and ran it along the firewall similar to the front axle breather hose.

It's too bad SWMBO took the digital camera with her. Otherwise, I could post pics of said hoses, along with my extended rear axle breather hose which is a really pretty purple colour because I tried to black dye the clear refrigerator hose I purchased for the extension.

And here is what is at the axle end. Mine was plugged, you remove the "banjo bolt", and run a small wire up the tube, and also clean out the bolt itself. Blow out open line with air or some spray solvent. Once clean and open re-install.
