03 Disco... blown head gasket
heres my story, i traded an 01 jeep cherokee for my 03 land rover discovery in late september. loved it for the first few days until i started experiencing hardcore power loss. i called the owner of the car lot where i bought it and explained to him that i was a broke-a$$ college student and the car was 3 days old to me and it needed to be fixed. it ended up overheating on my way back to the lot where i bought it. i was told it was the thermostat so that got fixed and everything was fine. i drove it from then until this past tuesday (11-17) when it started getting hot again. gauge was reading hot so i turned the heat on full blast and it cooled down again. driving it would stay pretty cool but it would get extremely hot during idle. eventually it overheated again blowing the T on the upper radiator hoses. i got everything fixed including another new thermostat and upon start-up they mechanic found out the head gasket was blown.
so my concerns are.....
how likely is it that the head is warped?
how likely is it that the block is warped/cracked/sleeve lifted?
should i even bother putting new head gaskets on it or just look for a complete long block?
any info is greatly appreciated,
jesse

Disco II's are notorious for head gasket problems...I had to have mine replaced also. I attempted to initially use Blue Devil, a head gasket sealer which seemed to work for about 2 weeks but then the heads began to leak again. Replacing the head gaskets cost me about 2 grand and I have had no problems since. I too was concerned about warped heads since on 2 occaisions the car overheated. My mechanic at Citside Garage in Holliston Ma said he has done many head gasket jobs on Discos and has never seen one with warped heads. Having said that, there are other Disco owners on this forum that have experienced warped head, although it is rare. In addition, when you do have the gaskets replaced, also have them check to see if any coolant has found its way into the cylinder sleeves....if that has happened you are looking at a rebuild. Fortunately there is an easy test to determine if this has happened. I do all of my own work on my car but the head gasket job is a big one and I would only recommend having it done by someone that has experience with Discos.
Hi, A relative has a 1992 Honda Legend with V6. He bought it used froma dealer a couple months ago. There is a leak in the heater core, so while working on that it also now has a head gasket leak with water it the left rear cylinder. There is water coming out as steam in the exhaust, the idle is not right, and there is water on the saprk plug. We are going to put some head gasket sealer in the water later. We have already tried this type of sealer I forgot the name.. but wil find it.. on another car and it worked on a Pontiac Firebird, plugging up the hole that car had in head gasket. We would much rather prefer just replacing the head gasket, but cannot get the head gasket replaced at thsi time. Are there any tips for working on the head gaket, water system, coolant system, leaks, removing and replacing parts in this forum of another Honda forum for this model car? Any info from other froum members and their experiences and help?I can get the manual for the car on the Internet through the library database.Thanx,,,
