I am new to the Disco family and excited. I have a problem with my stereo, I only get a faint sound from my back subwoofer. When I purchased the vehicle I had to enter the Radio code due to a new battery, after entering the code the radio comes on no problem. Just only getting a very low volume from the back, nothing out of the other speakers. Thank you.
They may all be rotted. Or some. These were cheap to begin with and after 20 years the rubber and paper rot. Easy to replace with some more cheap, but better made speakers. I believe they are 4 inch if memory serves me correctly.
The only sound I get is very faint out of the subwoofer. All other speakers produce zero sound. Headset/Radio turns on. Sorry if the original was confusing.
Subs have their own (very weak) amplifier. If all other speakers produce absolutely no sound I'd look first at the main amp in the passenger kick panel. First thing to do is check fuses, in particular F3 (main), F12 & F13 (main), and F4 (sat 2...bottom row). There is also a relay behind the glove box (K187).
I Checked the fuses, all good. I checked behind the kick panel, AMP fuse good and unplugged and plugged the relay (seems to be in good shape. Took apart subwoofer, definitely needs to be replaced but shouldn't be affecting the other speakers. No solution yet. Could it be the head unit/Radio it self?
If you are getting sound from the subs that suggests audio signal IS flowing from the head unit to the amp. Even the sub audio goes through the amp first. Perhaps the amp is simply blown.
Unless you need a 'night club on wheels' I'd suggest a 4 way x 40 watt amp to drive the four speakers and tweeters and then add a 250 watt mono amp dedicated to the subs. The amp for the subs makes all the difference. I use the stock amp and it sound great with the low end amped correctly. I put the sub amp in the pocket on the rear door and upgraded the woofers.
