does the radio work? (if so - prob not alarm)
I had similar problem - 1998 Disco died at a light - turned out it was the fuel pump

DOes your remote work (unlocking the rover)? When you put the key in the ignition and turn to the 1st position do you get lights and power?

Turn to 2nd position - does it crank at all? or just click?

Problem ended up being starter. With no warning at all
Bendix just failed . But to answer earlier question it made
No noise at all when trying to start..
