2001 Discovery coolant leak on Cyl heads
Have a 2001 Discovery on 90K 4.0 lit. Coolant leak.
coming from between cyl head and engine block. on right hand cyl head, it's on the front short end and on left hand side cyl head, it's on the rear short end.
So, have TWO leaks detected and it drips coolant on the garage floor. I say it's not seeping and it's not severe.
I was going to replace cyl head gaskets and to get down there of course all the gaskets in between. Surface the cyl heads and replace all cyl head bolts. replace thermostat. For a engine of 90K on it I also want to check valve guide clearance and replace seals.
The engine have a even high compression on all 8 cyl and due to previous replacement of plugs and cables it runs great. I have never over heated engie caused of lack of coolant as it is not a severe leak.
Any tips from anyone that already have experience on this kind of work. If there is any aditional I need to pay attention to besides what is listed above?
(I have worked professionally on cars for some years)
Thanks
Rolf

Both of my heas gaskets have been leaking off the front corners for over a year, but it has been so slight I haven't replaced them yet, they leak a total of abot a pint everyother week.
As for yours, do yourself a favor and do an engine flush, using 6 qts of ATF in place of the engine oil. Let it idle for a minimum of 20 minutes and up to an hour, then drain the engine and remove the oil pan, in specting for unusual pieces of metal and a plugged up oil pick up tube..
Now you have a lot cleaner engine to start working on.
