Default 2002 disco won't shift out of park when cold?

I have searched but have not been able to find my exact problem with my gearshift. After starting and shifting out of park after the truck has been sitting a few hours, I have to hit the brakes a couple of times and mess with it before it will shift out of park. After I drive it, stop turn off and back on everything works as normal. Only problem is initial start up. Any help appreciated.

Sounds like the neutral safety switch is failing.

It could be the neutral safety switch, but personally I'd first try the cheaper brake light switch first. I think it's $11-$12. I just had to replace mine because of the same symptoms but I had an extra already so I can't remember the exact price.
