Hello,
I just picked up an 03 disco with 95,000 miles on it pretty cheep. It has some issues. the check engine light is on i suspect because of bad welding when the previous owner put in new catalytic converters on both sides, the welding job was done bye someone not professional, looks like a high school students work. so anyway its blowing exhaust from holes in the weld on both sides of both converters which i suspected was messing with the engine intake and causing a slight gasping or pulling from the engine when going up hill or accelerating from 35 to 40 or 45 to 50. While waiting for a reasonable priced mechanic to have time to do my welding here on the Island of Maui where i have no tools i discovered new problems. This morning i fired it up and while driving up a slight hill check engine started flashing (first time) and i lost some power (felt like plugs or bad cord maybe, im going to check them today) . Any way these rovers are new to me and i was just looking for tips. not sure how related the very bad exhaust leak is effecting the engine or if i just ran into separate issues with the lack of power/ jerky engine stuff? i spent 2500 on it and would like to make it run its in pretty sweet shape and would be fun to handle some off road activities we have here. Any suggestions would be appreciated also wondering how important having all your o2 sensors is and about running a strait pipe (no emissions test in Hawaii) if the cat converters are in fact junk?

Boy do you have a lot to learn about new vehicles and Rovers.
You can't run straight pipes without cats and 02 on any vehicle, and why would you want to any way?
Go get your codes read and get back to us with your fault code numbers if you want any help, do it after you clean up the exhaust system so there are no leaks.
How many miles on the truck?

You can run with no cats, but you will get a check engine light.
Only the front O2's control engine fueling, the rear O2's only tell you if the cats are working or not, they have no other function, there are even "dummy" O2's out there to fool the ECU into thinking the cats are there so you do not get a check engine light.
Something to keep in mind, if you delete the cats you will lower the back pressure of the exhaust system, it will increase power and MPG a little but it will also shorten the life of the exhaust valves, to little back pressure and they will burn up, granted it will take 50,000 miles or more, but it will happen.
Until you fix the exhaust leak you really cant move forward on anything else.
