Default 2011 Range Rover Sport Blown Head

My 2011 RRS needs to have the head gaskets repaired and sent out to be machined. Also since the motor is now open I was told that the timing chain tensioner needs to be replace also at 66000 mile on the SUV. I’m getting a total repair estimate for partsand labor of $9000.00. Since this is my first RRS does this seems like a correct estimate or am I being ripped-off. The shop has a very high remark rating from other customers. But this seems very steep in repair price to me. Does anyone have any opinions and expertise in this area.
If so please respond and thank you very much.

you could buy another Range Rover with no mechanical issues in the same year model for not a whole lot more than the estimate you were given for an everyday repair! No, really, that is outrageous. Do yourself a favor and get a few estimates, in writing. You will notice a substantial difference between the cost of a certified Indy tech and the Land Rover dealer. You can show your estimates to Land Rover and ask if they can price more competively, if you the inclination to do so but you may change your mind about LR when you learn just how over-priced their service is, along with their total disregard for fair business practice. You should see how high they mark their parts up, never mind the labor fees. Also, I believe the timing system is designed to last far longer so i would ask to see this and have explained to me the wear which may or may not be existent and just how much the cost of this repair and replacement is in relation to the $9,000. Some others will respond to your post but I think even $3000 could be on the high end of non Land Rover repair shops

Definitely high, but be prepared to pay. I'm pretty sure that even an affordable shop wil be charging $4k plus.

The dealer would tell you you need a new motor. I know this because my friend is the lead tech at an Indy shop. He says the get all kinds of RRS and LR3s that have been diagnosed as needing a new engine by the dealer, but in fact need the heads done.

Where are you located?

I call rape. The gaskets are about $80 bucks worth, heads machined at most another $200 tops. Head bolts about $50 a set. Assorted gaskets maybe $100 bucks. Chain tensioner and front cover gasket maybe $100. What's the shops labor charge and how many hours are they quoting? The reason I ask is because with the top end of the motor peeled off getting to the chain tensioner might take another hour and that's fiddling around.

That quote must call for a set of new OEM heads

I agree the estimate is high.

I also would love to know where you are finding 2011 Range Rover Sports in the $10,000 range with those kind of miles.

Dallas Craigslist and Autotrader. I glanced at a few ads when I was searching for the disco2 that I got earlier in the year. Albeit I was more sarcastic than factual
