Default 2012 LR4 Infotainment lock up - back up camera, stereo, Nav

Hi there, hoping someone can help. My LR4 sat in the garage for a week while away, and the infotainment system became inoperative.

Upon starting it up, the audio/video tab was dark grey so you couldn’t click on it. When you click on Nav, it says initializing but doesn’t start, and when in reverse, the screen goes black. I checked all the fuses and they’re all fine.

My local dealer (Langley BC) said: We would have to re-scan the computer – my manager has said it could be 2-3 hours diagnostic including software update attempts.

They charge $165 + tax an hour. Is there a tool I can buy that can fix this?

Thanks!

Did you try a hard reset?

Haha. Amazing. Will try tonight. I have been told my battery is near the end of its life, so will replace too.

That could easily be the problem then, basically the computers experienced poor level low enough to sorta scramble them but not reset them. Disconnecting one lead on the battery for a couple minutes may take care of things.

I disconnected the negative lead for a bit, but no change (as the battery is likely too dead). I did buy a new battery but became a bit intimidated with all the connections. I also couldn’t find a good video online on how to change it. I’ll keep searching/reading. Feel free to share any thoughts. Thanks!

Yeah, if the battery is dead you will not have much luck. Does yours also have a secondary battery?

No. Found a video, swapped the battery, which was easy. Unfortunately it didn’t fix it, but everything else is fine. Think I just have to take it in for a $500 dealer download unfortunately. Car companies shouldn’t be able to charge for that....

Did you check for the secondary battery? I am not sure if its standard on all LR4s, its in the opposite location of the main -across the engine bay. Much smaller battery.
