yes, and on every make of vehicle ever made you reuse that stuff when replacing an engine

blocks are identical except for cps mount, easily transferred over with minimal welding or even jb weld

Yep, it's just a short block swap with an adjustment. There are threads on the net about guys swapping in 4.6 blocks into RRC and Discos. Anyways, the 4.6L crank n rods is the way to go, that's about $500. If you can, try to snag an aftermarket cam as well. Just a little more aggressive than stock.

217 for the standard 4.6. You'd be around that number.

its not just the max hp that matters. across the rpm range is a noticeable improvement over the 4.0 and 3.9

thats with the 229 cam, dont waste your time with the stock 4.6 cam

There's also a noticeable vibration with the 4.6 that isn't there with the smooth 4.0........ gain some, loose some.

so the consensus is any 4.6 crank and rods, keep the 4.0 flat top pistons and that the crower cam is worth the money? sound right

Sounds like BINGO! That should keep you within your budget. Which Crower cam you thinking of?

Also, forgot to mention it but a set of lifters would do the cam right....... you probably knew that though...... That would push you over your budget. I believe the Buick 215/300 also fit the lifter bores, might be a wee bit cheaper. Double check the size cuz I'm not "feeling it" today. Been a long one....... wiped out and it's only Monday.
