Default 91 Range Rover vs 72 Toyota Landcruiser

Hi, I'm brand new to the site and have two questions.
First I'm wanting a vehicle that I can take in the Utah mountains, in general which will have the best 4wheeler ability, a 72 stock Toyota landcruiser or a 91 Range Rover?
Second, the 91 Range Rover I'm thinking about needs some work and according to the present owner, he said it needs a new rear end. Is that a problem area? How reliable are the 91 Rovers? What are the things to watch out for? How tough would it be to replace a rear end?
Thanks,

Are you looking at a FJ40 or FJ55?

If you're looking at an FJ40, comparing that to a Rangie is Apples or Oranges.

The short wheelbase FJ will be nice in some cases, and the longer wheelbase Rangie will be nice in other cases. FJ no good on the highway, Rangie pretty good, FJ legendary reliability, Rangie infamous unreliablity....etc etc etc.

Watch the "Top Gear Bolivia Special" and it will really help you decide
