Default 95’ Disco 1 V8- Torque Converter Flex Plate Distance?

Hello fellow LR friends,

I’m trying to figure out if my Disco 1 is cursed or I am just a ding dong (leaning towards latter). Rebuilt my engine and took the block out for machine work not too long ago. When I put back in, I didn’t line up torque converter properly and blew up my trans pump. $1000 (for both pump and outer housing) and a few take outs later, I trying to make sure this is the last time I ever have to think about the trans again. I noticed there is a 3/16” gap between the TC and flex plate. When I bolt up, the TC slides forward that distance. Did not see any mention about gap in RAVE. Is this ok or am I transgressing against the ZF gods? I would rather be thrown in the volcano vs having to take this tranny out one more blasted time.

Perhaps I’m not following your problem exactly, but the torque converter needs to be seated correctly. It has 3 distinct “clunks” as you turn it to seat it.
