Default 98 making a grind/rub noise around motor

*For those that notice, starting issue solved* *Changing topic*

Just did a full rebuild on my D1 (gaskets, rings, bearings, upgraded camshaft, sensors, etc). The only things not replaced were pulleys, knock sensors, O2 sensors, CPS, alternator, AC, and starter. I finished putting it back together just a couple days ago. With it running it has an "odd to me" grinding/rubbing noise around the motor. It's while standing still with no movement, so anything from wheels to transfer box can be ruled out. I've checked the flywheel and it is not rubbing on the starter or CPS, nor is the starter wheel locked in the flywheel teeth. Below is a video from first startup so you can hear the sound. I'll be back shortly with a walk around of the motor while trying to pin point the location.

It's been 3 years since I've heard this thing run, so maybe this is normal... IDK...

-Also, the noise is still there with serp belt off which rules out any pulleys.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid of that, but I don't see why not.
I've replaced the pressure sensor.
The light works
And I primed the system (kinda, I hand cracked it with top house disconnected till oil came out).

Any additional advice?

first I would disconnect the coils or pull the relay so it doesn't start again.
did you pack the oil pump in Valentine?
did you replace the o-ring on the pickup?
do you have an oil pressure gauge you can install to check for pressure?

Pull the coils, got it. No I didn't, because I forgot, so instead I reverse pressurized it till the oil flowed in to the pan. I was hoping that would have done it since that is how some other engines are primed.

Is there a way to test the sensor? I noticed it's only one wire.

I don't recall there being an o ring on the pick up. Only the gasket. I'll pull the pan and check again.

I'm picking up a pressure gauge now to test it. I'm hoping it will fit in place of the sensor because I do not currently have an adapter.

Will the ultragaige read oil pressure? Mine should be here Wednesday

the land rover oil monitor system is just an idiot light either you have pressure or you don't. it is not a true pressure gauge.

i think you may find your problem is the new pump not creating suction, I know someone who used assembly lube and had the same problem.

you could un-power the coils pull out the oil sender and see if you get oil while cranking?

I truly appreciate the help. I picked up a mechanical gauge for $20. I'm going to try finding a T adapter at Lowe's so that if the gauge works well, I can keep it installed. I haven't gotten to my desktop to check the Rave yet, but online I've seen psi should be up near 50. Is that the same during cracking?

I'm also, prior to the gauge, going to check the pick up tube and make sure it's complete.

I hooked up the mechanical pressure gauge and ran it for about 45-60 seconds and the gauge leveled out around 29 psi. Any input appreciated. Otherwise I'll be digging in to the Rave.

Added notes. Despite recommendations from other threads I read, I tried allowing the motor to warm up to near operating temp. Pressure was consistent at 30 psi at 2k rpms. I have a high idle in which I need to have the computer reset so base idle is not possible right now.

Also, I'm running Royal Purple break in oil which is a 10W-30.

And the radiator was replaced to an eBay OE product. Read a thread about oil cooler possibly restricting flow. Not sure

Going to attempt bypassing oil cooler to try and rule that out.

ok. you have oil volume at the pump, thats a good sign.
the oil pump supplies volume, all the clearance in the engine provide the pressure.
did you use assembly lube on the cam and lifter?
did you fill the lifters before installing them?
you should be able to blow the old oil out of the cooler, with air.

The clearance is what I was reading about today. I used assembly lube on cam, lifters, and rockers. Fill the lifters though? I'm not sure what you mean by that?

The cooler is brand new, OE spec.

From reading, I figured my next check would be measuring crank bearing clearances. I had a shop do all of the bearings, but it wouldn't be the first time a shop has failed me...
