Default Ace

I have a 2000 LR DII 91k miles with ACE. The ACE is making whinning noises so I understand it may be going out. I do not want to put much $ into a 91k mile Rover so the cheapest thing would be to buy a regular belt for a DII without ACE and install it so I could do without it. Besides handling, what if any problems should I expect by doing this. thanks.

You should have never purchased a Disco if you weren't wanting to maintain it.
The ACE was a $1700 option, why would you want to disable it, when you could service it and cut the noise some????????????????????????????????????????????

Doubtful you will get rid of your noise. I have seen where after throwing many parts and a pump at some ACE units, they will continue to have some noise.
For me, a little noise is worth while for the advantage of driving with ACE.

Sorry if I got a little rude but I just don't know how much noise is normal. My ACE may not have any problems. Should I here it inside the vehicle with the windows up? I don't have to talk louder or anything but I can here it quite well inside with windows up. I have flushed the fluid very well with no difference in sound. The ACE is quite the option. My goodness this thing handles unbelievable on interstate turns at +80mph but this noise just needs to subside. Thanks man.

What fluid did you use? You might consider using a 1/2 bottle of Lucas p/s additive, quite often this will help.
