Like Bene said, pop the cover off and there is a clip that you must remove. Then unscrew the large nut and pull hard to remove.

Question 01/98 Land Rover Discovery 1

I do NOT have a plastic top cover to remove on the shifter ****, only a driver side push button on the shifter. I need only to repair the shifters lights. Do I need to remove the shifter or will the light /shifter indicator panel allow me to change lamps with a sub removal with wiggle room?

remove the rectangle shaped surround at the bass of the unit. Remove the rubber mat. You'll see wires leading to each side of the shifter. The bulbs simply pull out and can be replaced quite easily.
