Default AXEL BREATHER TUBE SEVORED, IS IT SERIOUS?!

Since I got my '03 DISCO II (69K) about a month ago I've finally completed the 60K service - I didn't know if it was done or not..... Anyway, I had noticed that there was this tube/wire looking thing just inside the driver's side wheel wellthat looked as though it had been sevored. Today I got down and really looked at it and, after further research found that it's the Axel Breather tube - the one coming out of the axel housing. It's sliced right in half! I just got the differential fluids replaced and stuff, but how serious is this problem and how easy is it to fix?The slice looks to have been intentional (nice and clean), but why would anyone want to do that? Could have been avery sharp rock or something I guess, but.....anywaythanks, and happy holidays!

You need to replace it sooner then later and no driving in the rain or thru deep water till you do.

the breathertube has been intentially sliced to keep the end from icing up and blocking the breather in cold weather.
