Default Bad engine

Hi, I am a new member and I have one quick question about our 2001 Discovery. The eng has gone bad at just at 100,000 miles and this my question. We were told that the engine was over heated and that is why the water (coolant) started to disappear from the res, but the opposite is true, the engine never overheated until the coolant level was too low because we did not keep a close watch on it. Where was the water going? ( not the head gaskets, we replaced them before the engine failure and had the heads tested)_____________Jneil

If you recently replaced the head gaskets, you most likely didn't bleed all the air from the system and she over heated, pretty common.

The system was bled and properly and serviced, but the coolant kept disappearing. It car only overheated because of the coolant level (MY FAULT) I wasn't convened when I saw the old head gaskets that that was the prob. My question is where did the coolant start going before the over heat situation came along? I'm going to remove the engine and disassemble and inspect it very closely and am positive I will find the sleeve problem everyone has told me about. We did not over heat this car UNTIL the coolant started to disappear. The system was pressure checked and water pump was not leaking, no signs of leaks outside the engine and the heads were pressure checked at the machine shop and checked for cracks when the gaskets were done. I'm hoping someone can point to an area that I may over look. If I cant find or fix this one I'll have to replace this block, but between you and me I dont trust any of them now given the problems people have had.-----------------Neil

How long was it pressure tested for, was there a chemical block test performed?

Pressure test should be run over 15 plus minutes and the chemical dye test will sniff out exhaust in the coolant.
